Itambira Island hosts the Seeds of Hope project, empowering communities surrounding Lake Bunyonyi through training to improve their livelihood and offering training for a range of skills.

‘Farming God’s Way’ has been a very popular course, training new methods of farming and land management in order to increase to increase crop yield and thereby improve food security for local families.

The course provides teaching on proper farming practices including soil conservation, planting and use of mulch. The method is based on biblical teaching and designed to help people to care for the land in the long term as well as improving short term cropping results.

Training is held at Itambira Island, Seeds of Hope in our conference and training centre.

On completion of the course, trainees receive supplies including improved seeds and other farming inputs.

Together with the learning from the course, they can now go and plant on their own land.

Farming God's Way - After Planting

After a few weeks of planting, the methods are already showing benefits.

Representatives from Itambira Island Seeds of Hope will visit trainees to see how they’re getting on using the new farming methods and provide further advice as required.

Farming God's Way Crops Growing

The specific planting methods, careful use of water and mulching show healthy crop growth for a good harvest.

Farming God’s Way benefits the family directly, providing food security – but also helps to provide additional food to sell or trade at market.
