4 local families have recently received water tanks, donated by charity organisation Itambira Island Seeds of Hope.
Accessing water is very difficult for the area and collecting water has been a daily chore involving long walks and heavy carrying.
Water tanks collect large amounts of water during the rainy season. This is stored so that it can be used for washing or cooking during the dry months.
We have been able to fund the construction of a number of water tanks for local families and communities, thanks to:
- Use of profits from tourism on Itambira Island Seeds of Hope
- Kind donations of our supporters in the UK and worldwide
Having a water tank makes a huge difference to the lives of those receiving them. These ladies describe in their own words what it means to them.
I thank God for the tank built for my family by Seeds of Hope.
At least we can access clean water at our door steps.
This has helped to improve hygiene in my house and my children too.
I have 3 married sons whose families are benefiting from the water tank.
Oooh what a relief!!
We live on top of a hill and our source of water has been has been travelling to the lake to fetch water. One has to walk for 1 hour to reach the lake.
Getting the tank is a gift from God and we thank Seeds of Hope Management for the assistance. The time saved in getting the water has helped us to do other home chores; also it has helped the children to get more time for reading at home.
I thank God for the gift of the water tank from Seeds of Hope.
I have been getting water from the lake which is 45 minutes walk down the hill.
So getting the tank has saved my family time to do other things at home and accessing clean water in our home.
The rain water tank is a great help to my family.
We have been getting water from the lake which is 40 minutes walk to the lake from my home.
With the tank we can now access clean water for domestic use.
The time saved helps my family to do other work in the home.

All profit from tourism goes to support our local community projects.
Itambira Island offers a unique opportunity to stay on Lake Bunyonyi. Day visitors are welcome and overnight guests can choose to stay in colourful en-suite treehouses or roundhouses with a lake view. We also offer budget accommodation and a cottage which is ideal for families or groups.
Our restaurant overlooking Lake Bunyonyi serves local and international food. We also offer wood-fired pizza and run regular barbecues. Sit by the firepit and watch the sun go down!
Conferences and events are our speciality.
Itambira Island is also home to the Seeds of Hope project and all profit supports our local community training courses and other initiatives.
